Sustainability

At Casa Juaclo, sustainability is not an add-on but the way the house connects with its surroundings. Every gesture contributes to caring for the island.

At Casa Juaclo, sustainability is not an add-on but the natural way the house relates to its environment. The sun that lights the alley is also the energy that powers us; a photovoltaic energy system supports much of our daily consumption and reduces our footprint on the island. Each ray of light that falls on the roof becomes a concrete gesture toward a more responsible future. Care continues in the everyday details. We have a clearly marked waste separation area, designed so that every material finds its recycling stream effortlessly. And we have a space for organic waste, where kitchen scraps return to the earth and turn into compost that nourishes the garden surrounding the house.

This commitment to sustainability stems from a deep respect for El Hierro, its fragility and beauty. We want those who visit to not only enjoy the surroundings but also to be part of their care. Here, every gesture — turning on a light, cooking, sorting waste, picking an herb from the garden — becomes a small yet meaningful contribution to this place that welcomes us. Because inhabiting Casa Juaclo also means learning to inhabit the island responsibly and with affection.
